1. Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification: CTET has two levels:
Primary Level (Classes I-V): Candidates must have completed their senior secondary education (12th grade) with a minimum of 50% marks and a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed), or equivalent qualifications.
Upper Primary Level (Classes VI-VIII): Candidates need a bachelor's degree with a Diploma or Bachelor’s in Education (D.El.Ed/B.Ed).
Age Limit: There is no upper age limit to appear in the CTET exam; however, candidates must be at least 18 years old.
2. Exam Type and Structure
Paper I is for candidates who intend to teach classes I-V, and Paper II is for those who aim to teach classes VI-VIII. Candidates can choose to take either or both papers based on their desired teaching level.
Question Format: Both papers consist of objective-type questions (MCQs) with no negative marking.
Marks: Each paper carries a total of 150 marks.
Sections:
Paper I: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies.
Paper II: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Science (for Mathematics and Science teachers), or Social Studies/Social Science (for Social Studies/Social Science teachers).

Each paper is given 2 hours and 30 minutes.

Child Development and Pedagogy: Focuses on educational psychology of teaching and learning, including development of children, understanding of diverse learners, and concept of inclusive education.
Languages I and II: Includes comprehension, basic grammar, verbal ability, and pedagogical aspects of language teaching.
Mathematics and Science: Concepts, problem-solving abilities, and pedagogy of mathematics and science.
Social Studies/Social Science: Focus on concepts, issues, and pedagogical practices in social studies.
