In this section of the UG-CLAT 2025, passages of approximately 450 words each will be provided. These excerpts will originate from modern or historically significant fiction and non-fiction works, and will be at a level that a 12th-grade student can comfortably read within 5-7 minutes. Each passage will be accompanied by a set of questions designed to test your comprehension and language abilities, which include:
- Grasping and understanding the main idea of the passage, along with any arguments and perspectives presented;
- Drawing inferences and conclusions from the text;
- Summarizing the passage;
- Comparing and contrasting the various arguments or perspectives outlined in the passage;
- Comprehending the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the context of the passage.
Current Affairs Including General Knowledge
In this section, passages of up to 450 words each will be provided. These passages will originate from news, journalistic sources, and other non-fictional texts. The questions may involve an analysis of legal information or knowledge discussed in or pertinent to the passage, but will not require any additional legal knowledge beyond what is presented in the passage.
Each passage will be accompanied by a series of questions that will test your understanding of various aspects of current affairs and general knowledge, including:
- Significant contemporary events from India and the world;
- Arts and culture;
- International affairs; and
- Historically significant events that are ongoing.
Legal Reasoning
In this section, you are expected to read passages of approximately 450 words each. The passages might pertain to factual situations or scenarios that involve legal matters, public policy issues, or moral and philosophical questions. You do not need any previous legal knowledge to answer the questions in this section. However, a general understanding of contemporary legal and moral issues will aid in applying the general principles or propositions to the provided factual scenarios.
Each passage will be followed by a series of questions that will require you to:
- Identify and infer the rules and principles outlined in the passage;
- Apply these rules and principles to various factual situations; and
- Understand how modifications to the rules or principles could change their application to different factual situations.
Logical Reasoning
The Logical Reasoning section of the UG-CLAT 2025 will consist of a series of brief passages, each approximately 450 words in length. Following each passage, there will be one or more questions that will test your ability to:
- Recognize an argument, along with its premises and conclusions;
- Read and discern the arguments presented in the passage;
- Critically evaluate patterns of reasoning, and determine how conclusions might rely on specific premises or evidence, and how these conclusions could be affected by changes in the premises or supporting facts;
- Deduce implications from the passage and apply these deductions to new scenarios;
- Establish relationships and analogies, pinpoint contradictions and equivalences, and evaluate the strength of arguments.
Quantitative Techniques
The Quantitative Techniques portion of the UG-CLAT 2025 will consist of brief sets of facts, propositions, or textual representations of numerical data, accompanied by a sequence of questions. Candidates will need to extract information from these passages or questions and perform mathematical operations on this information.
The questions will necessitate that you:
Derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information presented in such passages; and
Apply various 10th-grade mathematical operations to this information, including areas such as ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration, and statistical estimation.

The Consortium intends to release a variety of preparatory materials for UG-CLAT 2025, comprising:
The Consortium will provide guides to the question paper, sample questions, model question papers, and instructional materials and exercises for all subjects included in the UG-CLAT 2025. Candidates who complete their UG-CLAT 2025 application will gain access to a learning platform to utilize these materials and view their scores on various exercises and model papers. Additionally, the Consortium will host online sessions where subject experts will offer guidance on preparing for the UG-CLAT 2025 sections and tackling the questions.
Furthermore, candidates should enhance their ability to comprehend texts, stay informed on current affairs by reading reputable newspapers and magazines, and increase their speed in answering quantitative technique questions by practicing with resources like 10th standard math textbooks.
Marking Scheme:
Each correct answer carries 1 mark.
There is a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.
Number of Colleges and Seats:
CLAT 2025 will be used for admissions to 24 National Law Universities (NLUs) across India.
The total number of seats varies each year, but it's typically around 2500-3000 for UG programs and 500-600 for PG programs.

CLAT Consortium: The Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs) conducts the CLAT exam.
CLAT Scorecard: The CLAT scorecard is used for admission to various law programs, including those offered by NLUs and other affiliated institutions.
CLAT Preparation: Candidates can prepare for CLAT by studying legal reasoning, logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English language, and current affairs.
PG eligibility
An Ll.B. Degree or an equivalent examination with a minimum of Fifty percent (50%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to General/OBC/NRI categories and Forty-Five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/PWD categories.
Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination in April/May 2025 are also eligible to apply.
There is no upper age limit for appearing for the CLAT 2025.
Tie Breaker Rule : In case of equal marks, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
i. Higher age;
ii. Computerised draw of lots.
Introduction and Overview
The PG-CLAT 2025 will place a strong emphasis on the students' comprehension abilities. It will have a duration of 120 minutes and consist of one section:
The first section will contain 120 objective-type questions, each worth 1 mark. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each incorrect answer.
The examination will cover the compulsory subjects of the undergraduate program, including Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Administrative Law, Law of Contract, Torts, Family Law, Criminal Law, Property Law, Company Law, Public International Law, Tax Law, Environmental Law, and Labour & Industrial Law.
Objective Section
In the objective section of the PG-CLAT 2025, you will encounter excerpts from primary legal materials such as significant court decisions in various legal fields, statutes, or regulations. Each excerpt will be accompanied by a set of questions that will test your:
Ability to read and understand the issues, arguments, and viewpoints presented in the excerpt.
Awareness of the issues raised in the excerpt, as well as legal issues and facts stemming from the excerpt and the corresponding judgment or statute;
Skill in summarizing the excerpt; and
Capacity to apply your knowledge of the legal fields discussed in the excerpt.
Preparing for the PG-CLAT 2025
To prepare for the PG-CLAT 2025, one should:
Review and update your understanding of significant judgments, identifying the various issues addressed within them;
Refresh your knowledge of crucial constitutional and legislative provisions, especially those referenced in recent judgments. It is also beneficial to be cognizant of historical case law and amendments related to these provisions to gain a comprehensive understanding of them and the associated issues.
